Draw Poker

Draw poker is one of the oldest forms of poker and is also one of the simplest in that there are only two betting rounds and it is played without community cards. Because of this, Draw Poker is very popular amongst beginners as they only need to have an in-depth knowledge of the value of each hand and the ability to bluff successfully.

The most popular form of draw poker is Five Card Draw. A game begins with each player first posting an ante bet to join the game, although a common variation is for the two players sitting left of the dealer to post blinds.

The dealer then deals each player a complete five card hand, face down. This is followed by a round of betting where each player has the option to fold or to raise or call. Once the betting is complete, each player starting from the dealer’s left may choose to draw more cards from the deck to replace cards in their hand they wish to discard in order to improve their hands. The number can be anywhere from none to five cards and players discard unwanted cards before being dealt new ones.

Now the final betting round commences with the players left in the game starting from the dealer’s left. The last player to act shows their hand first at the showdown. Other players either muck their cards or show if they have a better hand and the best hand takes the pot.
