Seven Card Stud Hi Lo is one of those poker variations that provide its players with an interesting twist to the popular standard form of this classic game of Seven Card Stud poker. This is also a poker variation where there is a notable absence of the community cards which are present in popular games such as Omaha and Texas Hold’em. Instead, each player is dealt both concealed and revealed cards from which they form their hands. The game play and getting structure in Seven Card Stud Hi Lo is the same for regular Seven Card Stud poker and can briefly be outlined here. Each player pays an ante, after which they are dealt two cards face down, or hole cards and one card face up, called the door card. The player with the lowest door card starts the betting with a low bring in. Three more up cards are dealt following each subsequent round of betting as well as one final down card to make up the seven. In the showdown round, all remaining players show their cards. Hands are made up of any five of the seven cards dealt. The pot is split between the best high hand which follows the standard ranking of poker hands and also the best low hand. The low hand is made up of the lowest five cards with aces low and flushes and straights not counting against you. It is possible to hold both high and low hands together although this is rare. |
