Heads-Up Poker

Heads up poker can be best described as a style of poker played as a one to one poker duel to the death. It has enjoyed a recent upsurge in popularity. In fact, many online poker rooms are now offering Sit 'n' Go style tournaments and ring games for two-player Heads Up, with the most common form being No Limit Texas Hold’em.

In this game however, players can opt for Texas Hold’em or Omaha or indeed any other variation of poker, retaining their particular rules plus some additional ones that separate Heads Up Poker from just a simple two-up game of poker.

There are two major televised annual tournaments held that feature the Heads-Up No-Limit type of Hold'em. These are the World Heads-Up Poker Championship, or WHPC which is hosted in Europe and was first played as far back as 2001. The second is the U.S. hosted National Heads-Up Poker Championship, or NHPC, which gets good TV coverage by the NBC network and has been held in Las Vegas since its beginnings in 2005.

The games are as intense as they are exciting to watch as world class players battle it out using every ounce of their skill and psychological techniques to get to the final round where the last two players left play for the big prize money. In this game, finishing second is nowhere and the winner takes double or more over the second place, making it a real tough fight and a highly entertaining game.
